A local movement to create connection.

Community connectedness over national noise.

It’s no secret that we are a divided country. But the closer you look at your neighborhood, your school, or your town, the less intractable these divisions feel.

At the local level, we can find ways to cut through the noise.

Lancaster County in Common was founded by local organizations and community members who believe that there are important stories to be told about the things we agree on, the value that we all share, and the problems we want to tackle together to achieve what we all want: a better Lancaster County.

While we all have important differences of opinion, worldview, culture, and more, Lancaster County in Common seeks to use difference as a launchpad for strengthening connections between neighbors, finding places where we agree, and building solutions for the times where we don’t.

A focus on weaving

John Paul Lederach’s approach to community peacemaking takes inspiration from spider’s webs, emphasizing weaving relationships and connections that create the social spaces that form the invisible fabric of human community.

It’s an approach that recognizes that everyone has a unique and vital role to play with their given networks, skills, and ideas.

We take a similar approach, seeking to find “weavers” who are working to connect different parts of communities, holding up a shared web of our community.
